New to St. Paul? Visiting for
the first, second, third or more time? Wondering just what this church is all
about? Here are some FAQ:
SPLC has three services on
Sunday morning: 8:00, 9:15, 11:00. In addition to the regular Sunday worship
schedule, there are special midweek services during the church seasons of
Advent (the 4 weeks before Christmas); Lent (the 6 weeks before Easter); Holy
Week (the week leading to Easter).
Is there a difference between each of the Sunday
morning worship services?
The services at 8:00 and
11:00 follow a more traditional liturgical service style. The service is rich
in the historical roots of Christian worship. The setting is quite formal.
Liturgy by definition is the “work of the people.” You will find Lutheran
Christian worship to be very participatory. The words in the liturgy are drawn
from various scripture references in the Bible. The Eucharist (communion) is
celebrated on the first and third Sunday’s of the month.
The 9:15 service is more
contemporary in style. It contains many of the same components of the formal
liturgy service (without the titles and intentional transitions) but is free
flowing and upbeat. The service is led by the Praise Team, celebrates the Eucharist
(communion) weekly and is attended by all ages.
What is Word and Sacrament?
Lutheran Christian churches
will have at the core of their ministries an identity of Word and Sacrament.
Word is the holy scriptures of the Bible read, shared and proclaimed. Sacrament
refers to the two sacraments of the Lutheran Christian church: Baptism and
Eucharist (communion).
How do I get involved?
There is always lots to do at
St. Paul. A motto around here is don’t wait to be asked, jump in! Questions can
be asked through the Church Office or any of the staff and we will get you
pointed in the right direction!
